Hello!
A few very gentle summer-to-fall things to share:
A summery yoga practice featuring a Nikki Giovanni poem and some journal time at the end, from Tejal Yoga. I found it this morning after the always wonderful yoga with DuShaun was canceled. Highly recommend adding those to your calendar, though; the next one is October 28. (Link 1: YouTube, link 2: Garfield Park Conservatory)
I’m still deciding how I felt about the book itself, but I would listen to Meryl Streep read Tom Lake in her velvety human way all over again. Maybe in a decade or two. (NYT)
Almost all the books I’ve finished this year have been audio. More titles I’m still thinking about: Firekeeper’s Daughter, Yellowface, Joan is Okay, You Made a Fool of Death With Your Beauty, Olga Dies Dreaming. I mostly use StoryGraph instead of Goodreads now; if you’re there, let’s be friends!
The latest Covid-19 booster rollout is upon us. Everyone in the U.S. should be able to access this protection for free. Here’s a handy chart about how you might want to time it out, including if you’ve been recently infected. (Your Local Epidemiologist)
And speaking of (relative) peace of mind for this and future Covid waves, our household finally invested in an air purifier. I referenced Prerna Abbi-Scanlon’s highlight and we bought one of the Wirecutter-recommended ones. (Instagram)
Some season shift-y recipes: caramelized zucchini and white bean salad (NYT) and a very easy chicken chili, chickpea and rice soup but with peanuts stirred into store-bought chili oil. (NYT, NYT, 101Cookbooks)
And some on my list to try: spiced squash pasta and this homemade pumpkin spice latte. And maybe with the kindergartner, the corn cookies from Sioux Chef cookbook. (Diaspora Co.; Sweetgrass Trading Co.)
Happy autumn equinox.
I’ve been away from this space for a long time but I’m inching closer to being back more regularly. Thanks for sticking around.
