Happy Friday.
Item 1
Those of us who have had the luxury of not getting trained to recognize ICE or other federal agents — then stop them in their tracks — let’s skill up fast! This is not a drill. And it’s worth it; Chicago shows us.
If you have access to a printer ➡️ Print some Know Your Rights handouts, or a big stack of KYR cards (like these ones in Spanish/English), TODAY in whatever languages are commonly spoken in your area. Starting this weekend, take them with you wherever you go, along with some masking tape. Public bathroom stall? Coffee shop with a bulletin board? Library with a counter for community resources? You know what to do.
Whether you have a printer or not ➡️ If you aren’t already involved with local organizing in your area, sign up for a Rooted in our Power: Defending Immigrants Mass Call hosted by Detention Watch Network and several partner orgs. The first one is this coming Tuesday.
Item 2
Teachers and K-12 public school administrators, please weigh in. ➡️ If the parents and families of your students sent you a letter like this one right now, would that be helpful?

And two quick accountability notes
So far, readers have sent me $65 to put toward my micro-level spice drive for a local food pantry. Thank you to everyone who chipped in with a $5-10 donation! Think we can get to $100 by Wednesday? ➡️ Venmo @julia-smith-77.
I’m going to try to move this newsletter off Substack and to an alternative platform in the next month or two. If you have experience with this specific kind of migration and are willing to help me if I run into issues, please let me know!
